Bitcoin, orphaned for 13 years. In the early years after the launch of Bitcoin’s blockchain network on January 3, 2009, its creator Satoshi Nakamoto continued to work to maintain his creation. But in April 2011, he definitively passed the torch to other BTC developers, mysteriously disappearing into obscurity.
THE ULTIMATE MESSAGE FROM SATOSHI NAKAMOTO TO DEVELOPER MIKE HEARN
While we’re now certain, thanks to the British justice system, that Craig Wright is by no means the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity remains a total mystery.
Thirteen years ago, on April 23, 2011, the brilliant inventor of the first cryptocurrency sent his last known message to Bitcoin developer Mike Hearn. Hearn revealed his final email exchanges with Satoshi, and here are the founder’s last words, which would shape the prolific crypto-assets sector:
“From: Satoshi Nakamoto satoshin@gmx.com Date: Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 3:40 PM Recipient: Mike Hearn mike@plan99.net
[Question from Mike Hearn quoted by Satoshi:] I have a few other things on my mind (as always). One of them is this: do you plan to reintegrate into the [Bitcoin] community at some point (e.g., for code reviews), or do you intend to permanently retire from the scene?
I’ve moved on to other things. [Bitcoin] is in good hands with Gavin [Andresen] and everyone.
I hope your BitcoinJ will continue to be developed into an alternative client. It gives Java developers something to work on, and it’s easier with a simpler base that doesn’t need to do everything. It will reach critical mass when new eager users can start using it while the other one is still downloading the block chain [note: “block chain” in the text].”
Since then, silence. Nothingness. Only speculation, rumors, hopes (and some fears) when old bitcoins dating back to before April 2011 are suddenly awakened from their slumber… After 13 years with no news, some are starting to believe that Satoshi Nakamoto may never return, adding to his mystery.
